The Experiment

Rod Fleck – amateur!  ;-)

I received these 15 coins @ $1.25 each from Lee Johnson, oldcoinman on Ebay [Contact him directly for off auction prices t501@charter.net] – and figured that I would try an experiment on cleaning them – this is a work in progress so let’s see what happens along the way.

The group seems to be really nice – you can see a set of details in the group picture.  I divided them into three sets – each has a true “crusty” init and each has at least one coin that shows a level of detail at the start.  Also tried to have each group have a larger coin as well.

Group 1 – with the quarter – has a great Byzantine “cup coin” and it really is nice as it is – but it will be cleaned to some degree in this experiment.  Here is Group 1 – with both sides shown.

There is a close up of the cup coin at the bottom of the page.

Group 2 – nickel group – has a great large Roman with detail noted below.  All need to be cleaned in this group.

Group 3 – dime group – are the tiny ones that my daughter of seven loves.  The one with the cross has a picture below showing more detail.

Now here are the three detailed pictures

So, now as to the experiment.
