OBITUARY TRANSCRIPTIONS

This file contains transcripts of obituaries for some early Clallam County citizens who were advanced in years, and therefore, the pioneers of this county. They come from the Port Angeles Evening News and it's successors, The Daily News, and The Peninsula Daily News unless otherwise noted. They often contain interesting bits of local color and history.

I have done my best to make them as accurate as their source. Entries cloesd in [...] are my own comments.

Dates were typed as found. In some cases, as is often the case with obituary clippings, there is no date.

Use the find feature of your browser and be flexible with spelling.

This database cannot be complete. It is intended to be a starting place. While there are many links,
not all connections have been made.

THE CLALLAM COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Their Library maintains an extensive collection of obituary clippings from the Port Angeles & Sequim newspapers.
You can arrange to obtain photocopies and/or further information from them.
This is by far the best resource for Clallam County information.  They are faster, more comprehensive and less expensive than Inter-Library Loan.

Select Queries or Obituary Index from their Homepage.

THE NORTH OLYMPIC LIBRARY SYSTEM

The Peninsula Daily News obituary index is available to current NOLS library card holders.  This index dates as far back as 1916. It includes all obituaries or death notices printed in the paper, many being for Port Townsend and area residents.  There are some entries from the Sequim Press but this paper's entries are limited.

If writing to request copy of an obituary from the Public Library, please:

  • remember that the librarians do not have unlimited time for research; please limit the number of records requested.  For multiple requests or indepth research, please contact the Genealogical Society.
  • include as complete deathdate or newspaper issue date, page, etc, if known.
  • include a #10 (business) stamped envelope with your return address (my request, not theirs)
