1849 Water Color of Steinschönau

With the Signatures of Men of the Village

This painting comes from the letterhead of a letter written by Herr Dktr. Barta’s ancestor. Not only is the view a great representation of the village, but also note the signatures of the men of the village! What a find and thank you Herr. Dktr. for sharing it with us.

Herrn Barta has shared the fact that this was a letter of appreciate sent to the Böhmenian Minister, the equivalent Secretary of State for Bohemia, for his support of the Steinschönauer’s in a war with Prussia. The letter was written by Carl Conrath, Bürgermeister, and signed by the Gemeinderat of Steinschönau. Herrn Barta’s ancestor is Carl Conrath.
