49.  John W. Skehan [Skehan@maine.edu], e-mail from john skehan, "Electronic," Hi Rod--You may recall that some time ago I asked you if you had information concerning Sullivan Tinker and how he fits in the Tinker genealogy.  You indicated that you really didn't have the information that I was seeking. After re-examining all of the data that I have available, I have come to the conclusion that Sullivan Tinker was probably the son of William Tinker and Rebecca Parker.  My conclusion is based on the following factors: 1.  The 1851 Campobello census includes only three Tinker families:  David (age 42) & Sophia (age 33) Tinker (family #107), Sullivan (age 25) & Caroline (age 25) Tinker (family #108), and William (age 57) & Rebecca (age 53) Tinker (family #109).  According to your data, "Descendants of Capt. William Tinker", David Tinker and William Tinker were the sons of Capt. William Tinker.  In view of their ages (42 and 57, respectively), it is quite unlikely that Sullivan Tinker (25) was the son of Capt. William Tinker.  It is more likely that Sullivan was the son of either David & Sophia Tinker or William & Rebecca Tinker. 2.  Because of his age in the 1851 census Sullivan (25) could not be the son of David (age 42) and Sophia (age 33).  It is quite probable, however, that he was the second son of William (age 57) and Rebecca (53).  Sullivan's age (25) fell between the ages of William & Rebecca's sons William (age 27) and George (age 22).      3.  When I visited the "Old" Wilson's Beach Cemetery last fall I made a lot of notes and took a number of photographs of Tinker and Brown gravestones.  The grave of Sullivan Tinker "who died 4th Feb. 1853 aged 27 years" is located next to the grave of "Charlotte W., wife of George R. Tinker 1822-1913".  If my conclusion is correct, Sullivan Tinker was the brother-in-law of Charlotte Tinker,  and that is why they are both buried in the "Tinker family" cemetery plot..

50.  Notes of Rod Fleck, e-mail sent to John Skehan - 6 Jan 2003, Sullivan could not be the son of David and his first wife Frances Patterson, since Sullivan is born in 1826 and David and Frances marry in about 1832.  Nor, can Sullivan be a child of David and Sophia's union - since they marry after 1847.  So, here are the possibilities:1.  Sullivan is an illegitimate son of a very young David Tinker (age 17-18) -- possible, but not too likely I would presume;2.  Sullivan is the son of William and Rebecca - age works and the timing pattern noted above works as well;3.  Sullivan could be the son of either the George Tinker noted in the 1823 tax rolls - making him part of a new line (not a possibility that lacks merit, just no evidence - circumstantial or otherwise) - see the two reformated tax rolls -- I suspect the George Tucker on the other one is in fact the same George Tinker in the 1823 roll or in the alternative it could be right in that there is a Gilbert Tucker noted in the 1811 militia roll.  http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcampob/camp9d.htm  [Note to Heather - maybe that 1841 roll is correct after all?).4.  Sullivan could be a son, at a rather late age mind you, of David Tinker, age 48 noted within the 1811 militia rolls - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcampob/camp9d.htm (not a possibility that lacks merit, just no evidence - circumstantial or otherwise)..

51.  John W. Skehan [Skehan@maine.edu], e-mail from john skehan, "Electronic," [This is a continuation of the message for the birth and linkage to William and Rebecca].3. If my conclusion is correct, Sullivan Tinker was the brother-in-law of Charlotte Tinker,  and that is why they are both buried in the "Tinker family" cemetery plot.On the basis of these three points, I feel quite certain that Sullivan Tinker was the son of William and Rebecca Tinker and the nephew of David and Sophia Tinker.  Incidentally, the 1851 Campobello census includes a notation that Sullivan was "sick".  As noted in #3 (above), he died two years later (1853).I would be interested in any comments concerning my conclusion!John.

96.  e-mail from  johnskehan, John W. Skehan [Skehan@MAIL.MAINE.EDU]Hi Barb--In response to your question regarding Seward Bucknam Tinker's age discrepancy, I went back over my notes to make sure that I had passed along the correct info to you.I'm "virtually certain" regarding his birth and death dates, and my notes say his age was 11 months.  However, his true age at the time of his death was 1 year, 11 months.  I'm not sure whether I inadvertently left off the 1 year when I made my notes in Augusta, or whether the Eastport Sentinel article did not mention his age and I made a mistake in calculating his age.  In either case, his true age at the time of his death was 1 year, 11 months.  The next time I am in Augusta, I'll  "double check" the "Vital Records from the Eastport Sentinel" to determine how I "goofed".  Incidentally, they had a serious water problem in the Augusta Archives, and the search room has been closed for about 3 or 4 weeks.  It is scheduled to reopen May 15th (if everything goes according to plan).JohnWed, 18 April 2001.

97.  John W. Skehan [Skehan@maine.edu], e-mail from john skehan, "Electronic," John W. Skehan [Skehan@MAIL.MAINE.EDU], Hi Barbara--After I sent my earlier note concerning the birthdate of Howard Welton Tinker, I read through the communications that had gone back and forth between you and Rod Fleck.  After doing so, I realized that I might have some of the other information about which you had expressed an interest.  I checked the information that you had about the Alexander Tinker family against the information that I obtained from the "Early Eastport Records" microfilm in the Maine Archives in Augusta, and all of your birth, marriage, and death information corresponds to the information on that microfilm, with the following exceptions:   1.  Glendy Alexander Tinker's date of birth on the Augusta microfilm is listed as 13 November 1875, not 13 November 1874.   This makes sense, because his sister, Susan Nettie Tinker, was born 15 February 1874, and it is quite unlikely that these two children would be born only 9 months apart.    2.  Page 186 of the publication, "Vital Records from the Eastport Sentinel of Eastport Maine, 1818-1900" states that "Seward (Seward Bucknam Tinker) , son of Alex Tinker, died in Wilson's Beach 24 December 1861, age 11 months".  (The death was originally reported in Vol. 44, #1 of the Eastport Sentinel dated 1 January 1861.I hope this information may be of use to you, if you don't already have it.Regards,John SkehanWednesday, 4/18/01.

98.  e-mail from  johnskehan, Barbara--last Friday I had a meeting in Augusta, and I had an opportunity to spend an hour in the Maine Archives and the State Library.  This is the first time that I have been in the archives since the "flooding" that occurred last winter and spring. One of my main tasks was to double check the publication, "Vital Records from the Eastport Sentinel of  Eastport, Maine 1818-1900" to see if I had made a mistake in recording what it said concerning Seward Tinker's age at the time of his death.  The report of his death in this publication listed his age as "11 months", as I had informed you in my e-mail of 18 April 2001.  So, it appears that his reported age at the time of his death was incorrect and should have listed his age as 1 year 11 months (assuming his birth date is correct).Regards,John Skehan.

Skehan [Skehan@MAIL.MAINE.EDU], Barbara--Today while looking through my folder of Tinker e-mail I noticed the query that you sent to Rod fleck on 10/20/2000 concerning the correct birthdate for Howard Welton Tinker.  Rod's reply of 12/10/2000 indicated that he couldn't verify either of the two dates in question. The Maine State Archives in Augusta has a microfilm of "Early Eastport Records" (births, deaths and marriages prior to the state collecting said information starting in 1892).  Howard Welton Tinker's birth certificate on that microfilm states that he was born 12 September 1868, not 12 September 1862. I hope this "verification source" may be of assistance to you.  I"m sorry that I didn't forward this information to you sooner.Regards,John Skehan.
