John
Lindner was from the Northside of Pittsburgh, PA (old
Allegheny) and enlisted on August 20th 1861 as a member of Company I. He was discharged at Harpers Ferry, VA
on the 29th of September 1864. In October
1864, he transferred from Company I into Company G and was made a corporal of
what is sometimes referred to as the “new regiment.” His war records show that he was present
April 30, 1862 on detachment service, missing in action at the battle of Gettysburg, PA
from July 2, 1863 till Sept 29 1863. He in fact was taken
prisoner at the battle, was a prisoner of war held at Richmond,
VA, and was later paroled at Annapolis, MD. He again was reported as missing from Sept.
to April 30 1864. One of the pension
affidavits for Lindner’s application was signed by Moses Fisher who enlisted
and served with Lindner in the regiment.
