of Battenberg, Kreise Kroutheim, Grand Duchy of
Baden. In 1861 Scherlein
stood 5'2", had a dark complexion, gray eyes and dark hair. Weaver. Enlisted 14 March 1862 for three years as a Private
at Reading, Pennsylvania,
by Captain R. Dietrich [mustered in 9 April 1862]; discharged for disability 19
October 1862 at hospital in Rhode
Island. Saw action at Freeman’s Ford, Sulphur Springs, Waterloo
Bridge and 2nd Bull Run.
