Phillip Gut, later spelled Good, was born in Germany in 1839. In October of 1861 he enlisted in Company G
of the regiment. He was promoted to
Corporal in April of 1863 and was assigned as the Corporal of Company K in
September of 1864 when parts of the regiment were being discharged. He was discharged on the 17th of
October 1864 in Grafton, West Virginia at the expiration of his term
of enlistment. But, his pension document
gives an official mustering out of 29 August 1865.
He returned to West
Virginia and married Mary Forni. They settled in Wellsburg, WV
where he owned a confectionary and was a baker and an ice cream maker. They had six children. He died on 14 October 1884.
