EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Michael M. Smith

Starting as Executive Director the last week of March 2005, Michael Smith has a background in social services and a degree in psychology. He most recently was the teen director of the Sequim Boys & Girls Club and managed the maintenance of its Fir Street building. With two teenaged children himself, Smith has received praise for his professionalism and mentoring of the youth from staff and parents.

His experience hasn’t been just with young people. He has been an insurance agent, stockbroker and banker. He has also worked as admissions director for a nursing home and for the first Port Angeles Alzheimer’s Memory Walk; he chaired a committee that raised money for research of the disease.

Of his shift from managing money to his current interest, Michael says, “I’ve discovered I love working with people more than with numbers or things.” His goal is to spread the word about the center throughout the community highlighting the many opportunities available to members and guests that aren’t widely known in the Sequim area and increase the membership.

OFFICE STAFF

  Kendra Donelson,  Trips Coordinator

Diane Johnston, Office Manager. Her new position as Office Manager is a step up from her previous position as Office Assistant, which is now held by Joan Oravetz.

Joan Oravetz is our  OFFICE ASSISTANT.  Her position is a training position funded by the Senior Community Service Employment Program, established under Title V of the U.S. Department of Labor.  She will be at the front desk  and train and work closely with Diane Johnston, our Office Manager to provide continuity at the desk in the afternoons.  Joan has been chosen for this position based on her application and previous excellent volunteer work at our center.  Stop by the front desk some afternoon and say hi and welcome to Joan.
