“Celebrate May,
Older Americans’ Month!”

Wow!
Isn’t that great? We
have a whole month devoted to us . . . we who have managed to become
‘seniors,’ whatever THAT means!
However, before we think we are ‘extra
special’, I feel you should know we DO have to share the month with:
Date Your Mate Month, National Barbecue, National Bike, National
Blood Pressure, National Hamburger, National Photograph, National
Recommitment, and National Salad Month!
Actually, I was beginning to look all of May’s
National Months as being
somewhat humorous; but, as I was copying and pasting them to this
article, they started tying themselves together into the fabric of
Older Americans’ Month.
Date Your
Mate and
National Recommitment Month.
With spring, hopefully, fully upon us, take the time to connect
with your spouse or significant other with a walk in the great outdoors,
pursue an activity you enjoy together, or enjoy a meal in a fine
restaurant. Recommit
yourselves to each other, remembering what brought you together in the
first place.
National
Blood Pressure Month is a reminder to all to monitor your blood pressure, to change
diet, exercise, or medications to keep it in the ‘safe’ zone, reducing
your risk of heart disease or stroke.
National Bike and
Photograph Month reminds
us to exercise our bodies and our brains.
Even though it may not be a 10 speed bike, but just the idea of
getting our legs moving!
Photographs are such precious records of our past and present
lives to pass on to future generations.
Take time to create mini-albums—or, for the computer literate of
us, CD’s—of meaningful events.
Photography, itself, is a wonderful hobby and pastime, creating
enduring memories.
And, then, there is FOOD!
National Barbecue, Hamburger
and
Salad Month . . . almost
everyone loves the camaraderie of a barbecue . . . the sound and smells
of sizzling burgers on the grill.
And, what better way to enjoy grilled food than with a chilled,
crisp salad?
Enjoy ALL the months embedded into this one wonderful month of May!
