OVER THE HILL HIKERS

The Over the Hill Hikers evolved from one woman's love of walking.   In 1981 after her own retirement from teaching and her husbands retirement from the ministry, Harriet Hertzog wanted to walk but found she did not like walking alone.  She wanted to experience the beauty of the area with others.   She invited anyone interested in walking to go with her.  A habit that continues until this day. The group has grown to over 200 on her list although only 30 to 50 hike at any one time.  Until recently she did all the planning by herself.  A tremendous responsibility.  Lately, a small group of hikers has been meeting and sharing this chore.  Still maintaining the lead but delegating some of the work she has developed into a truly fine CEO for the OVER THE HILL hiking group.

GUIDE LINES for HIKERS

Fitness levels vary in a group of this size, so finding a companion to hike with is easy.

Hikes are not cancelled for weather unless the rain is hard enough or the snow deep enough to create a warning from the weather service.

Hikes usually last about 2 hours and are in a range of 1 to 4 miles in length. This is varied for many reasons but everyone should hike at a pace and time period that is enjoyable for themselves.

Hiking boots with good tread are recommended. A walking stick may seem like a bother to carry but it can really help at times.

MEETING AREAS

See schedule for meeting place and times. Port Angeles meeting place is usually the United Methodist Church, 7th and Laurel. Sequim meeting place is usually the Trinity United Methodist Church on Blake Ave.
