Writing Unit 04: WASL Writing Scores Page

Directions:
  1. Student accesses the teacher's webpage, copies his or her writing scores onto an excel spread sheet. Those scores should be: 7th grade Writing WASL score total, and then each of the two prompt scores.

  2. Create a jpeg of those scores.

  3. Cut and paste the graph onto Paint Shop Pro; save it as a jpg to the la folder titled "write."

  4. Create an HTML page titled "writescores.html" Save this in the la folder.

  5. In the write.html page, have a title for the page, the jpg image of the graph that was created, and a paragraph that explains the writing scores.

  6. The paragraph should explain: (1)your total WASL writing score. Since 9 is passing, did you pass or not? (2) Then explain the prompt writing scores. List what your scores are. Explain that 3, 2 is considered to be a passing grade for an essay. (3) Add other prompt scores as they are completed. (4) Finally, do you feel you are making progress towards passing the 10th grade Writing WASL?

  7. Video best viewed over high bandwidth internet connection.

    EXAMPLE

9 was a passing score on the 7th grade Writing WASL test. My score was 9. I just barely passed the test. It was close, but I passed.

The next four numbers are the prompt scores for the two essays that I wrote in the 7th grade Writing WASL. The first score is for content and organization on a scale of four (being highest) to zero (being lowest.)Scores of four or three are passing. The second score is for mechanics such as spelling, punctuation, and capitalization on a scale of two to zero, with a score of two being a passing score.

One can see that I really didn't pass the first essay with a score of 2,2, but I did well on the second essay with a score of 3, 2. I will continue to work on my organization when writing essays. That should help. It looks like I did pretty well on the mechanics of both of these essays. I earned a solid 2 for each essay I wrote on the 7th grade writing WASL. I should be able to pass the 10th grade Reading WASL in two years.
