Types of Elaboration

 

 

1. Anecdotes: a short little story that develops or illustrates an idea or point being made.

 

2. Examples: provides more specific information.

 

3. Definition: restatements of unfamiliar words or phrases.

 

4. Statistics and/or Facts: numbers and information that helps support the idea or point being made.

 

5. Quotations: person’s direct words that helps support idea or point being made.

 

6. Descriptions: creates a vivid image. (use adverbs, adjectives, vivid verbs)
