Rules for = Use and=20 Handling of the Throwing Events

1. No one will be allowed to throw any = implement=20 until they have received instruction from a

   =20 coach.

2. You are not allowed to throw the = javelin or=20 hammer unless there is a coach present to

   =20 supervise (two for the hammer).  You may throw the shot put and = discus as=20 long as there is

   =20 a coach on the upper field.  All athletes will stand behind = the nets=20 while the hammer or

   =20 discus is being thrown.  When throwing the javelin, all = athletes=20 will throw in the same

   =20 direction.

3. The shot put, discus and hammer will be = stored in=20 the sheds on the track.  = The=20 javelins will

   =20 be stored in the track & field = cage in the=20 weight room.

4. Anyone not demonstrating the proper use = and=20 technique of the throwing implements will

   =20 not be allowed to participate as a = thrower in a=20 meet.  An athlete must = have at least=20 two

   =20 practices in a particular throw before = competing=20 in that throw.

5. The javelin will be thrown on the lower = field=20 during practice.  It is = only thrown=20 on the upper

   =20 field if the coach deems it safe.  During competition, the men = throw the=20 javelin on the lower

   =20 field and the women on either the = lower field or=20 the upper field.

6. During practice, all implements will be = thrown=20 prior to retrieval.

7. Before you throw, look to make sure no = one=20 (except a coach) is standing in the throwing

   =20 area. =20 If a coach is observing you from the front, make sure he/she is = paying=20 attention

   =20 before you = throw.

8. All throwing events are dangerous and = can result=20 in DEATH.  = Horseplay and/or=20 unauthorized

   =20 use of equipment and facilities is=20 prohibited.  Breaking any = of these=20 rules may eliminate you

   =20 from participating in the event and = could result=20 in dismissal from the team dependent upon

   =20 the severity of the=20 infraction.

9. I have communicated with my parents = about the=20 discipline required in throwing the javelin.
