Active and Passive Verb Forms sheet 1

Active: Karin will run the projector.

Passive: The projector will be run by Karin (add form of “be”; add “by”)

Active: My father built the house.

Passive: The house was built by my father.

Passive: The house was painted (white) by us.

Active: We painted the house white.

Directions: Rewrite the following sentences. If the verb is active, make it passive; if it is passive, make it active.

1. The Harpers brought tapes and records to the party.

2. A field trip has been arranged by Mr. Kowalski.

3. The program has been canceled by the network.

4. The secretary opened the mail.

5. Colorful decorations were made by the committee.

6. Some good books have been recommended by Ms. Drew.
