Pt2 Subjects and Verbs 2

 

A Subject  tells “WHO” or “WHAT” the sentence is about.

 

A  Verb tells “what the subject is doing” for an action verb.

-a verb also may be a linking verb and express a “state of being.”

Look for: is, am, are, was, were, be, been, being

 

 

Directions: For each sentence, write the SUBJECT and the VERB.

 

  1. The people in our town act friendly.
  2. A fierce storm blew across the Midwest.
  3. Our school principal addressed the parent’s meeting.
  4. A branch caught in the blades of our lawn mower.
  5. The answer to the question requires an explanation.
  6. These magazines have good color photographs.
  7. A good dictionary defines words simply.
  8. The librarian helped me with my report.
  9. The referee explained the rules of the game.
  10. Pat asked her brother for some help.
  11. Reporters from several newspapers called the school all afternoon.
  12. The quilt on my bed keeps me warm.
  13. Our neighbor brought a casserole for us.
  14. Tina’s team won the tournament.
  15. The enthusiastic audience applauded for the performers.
