Pt2 Subjects and Verbs 2
A
Subject tells “WHO” or “WHAT” the
sentence is about.
A Verb tells “what the subject is doing” for
an action verb.
-a verb also may be a linking verb and express a
“state of being.”
Look for: is, am, are, was,
were, be, been, being
Directions:
For each sentence, write the SUBJECT and the VERB.
- The people in our town
act friendly.
- A fierce storm blew
across the Midwest.
- Our school principal
addressed the parent’s meeting.
- A branch caught in the
blades of our lawn mower.
- The answer to the
question requires an explanation.
- These magazines have
good color photographs.
- A good dictionary
defines words simply.
- The librarian helped me
with my report.
- The referee explained
the rules of the game.
- Pat asked her brother
for some help.
- Reporters from several
newspapers called the school all afternoon.
- The quilt on my bed
keeps me warm.
- Our neighbor brought a
casserole for us.
- Tina’s team won the
tournament.
- The enthusiastic
audience applauded for the performers.
