Newsletter November 2007 Peninsula Tennis Club Newsletter November 1, 2007
Hello PTC members:
There is again Peninsula Tennis Club business & events to report.
Our annual membership winter dinner meeting will be held Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 pm at Dungeness Golf Course. Back by popular demand will be the auction/raffle to raise funds for the PTC treasury. Please save the date and make plans to attend. As soon as we have menu and prices set we will send out dinner invitations. If you have raffle items to donate, please let us know.
The main business at the dinner meeting will be voting in our officers for 2008 & 2009. We will be nominating and electing President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer & Social Chair. So show up, or run the risk of being elected!
As we extended the 06-07 PTC memberships to run through the end of the calendar year, all 2007 memberships expire on Dec 31. We will send out membership invoices prior to the dinner meeting and you may either mail your renewal checks in to the club, or bring them to the dinner. We end this year with 98 paid memberships, 24 of which are family memberships, so that makes somewhere around 130 members.
At the dinner meeting we will announce this year’s winners of the Male & Female Most Improved Player awards. Please vote, as we would really like to recognize those players who have worked the hardest on their games and improved the most! You can vote anytime before the meeting by email to peninsulatennisclub@olypen.com or by leaving a message on the club phone at 460-2588. Write-in candidates and new nominations are gladly accepted. You can also vote at the dinner meeting. 2007 nominees are: David Godfrey, Andy Chinn, Mallory Maloney, Roger Goettling, & John Erskine for the men, and Justine Textor, Tricia Stratton, Allison Hastings & Val Allard for the women. Past winners are: Jeff Brown, Bob Ritchie, David Godfrey, Debra Knutson, Christy Brown, Casi Fors & Stacia Bibler.
In current playing opportunities: Community Tennis continues at 9:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays at Erickson Park, and at noon on Sundays at Sequim High School. The Tuesday/Thursday 4pm Community tennis at Erickson will continue as long as daylight permits.
PTC has purchased $400 in new rollers & squeeges for the Erickson courts. They are stored in the PTC shed at the park. The lock combination is printed on your membership card. After using the rollers, please store them standing up so that the sponge part is not resting on anything. Rest them only on their metal frames. If the rollers dry out while misshapen, they are permanently damaged.
In indoor playing opportunities: The Bainbridge Athletic Club on Bainbridge Island is hosting a doubles tournament November 14th – 18th. Entry deadline is November 9th. The entry form is available on our website at www.olypen.com/peninsulatennisclub. The tournament entry fee includes a buffet dinner on Saturday followed by a tennis exhibition by area pros including US Open doubles champion Patrick Galbraith. BAC phone is (206) 842-5661. It is possible that you would not be required to play before the weekend or Friday night, check with the tournament director at the phone number above.
Bremerton Tennis & Athletic Club is having their Turkey Shoot tournament the same weekend, November 16th to 18th. Entry deadline is November 11th. Events are both singles and doubles. More information is available on the USTA website at http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=53067. Club phone is (360) 692-8075.
There has been much email about the potential acquisition of a bubble for a tennis/soccer Recreation Center in Port Angeles. That issue will be addressed in separate emails, as details develop. If you have suggestions, comments, questions, etc, James Schouten is driving that project and can be reached at 452-8281 office, 460-6268 cell and millcreekconst@hotmail.com. There are meetings tonight, Thursday, of the PA City Recreation & Beautification committee at 5:00 pm at PA City Hall and the YMCA board at 5:30 that James is asking supporters to attend. We plan to have a PTC meeting after the Y meeting to get members feedback.
The Monday PTC monthly business meetings are suspended through the end of the year, due to scheduling conflicts. If you have business concerns or issues, please mail us at peninsulatennisclub@olypen.com.
See you on the courts, or in the meetings!
