Peninsula Tennis Club newsletter

Hi All Tennis Players:

Not too much going on yet, but a few things to be aware of.

The PTC Spring Tennis League will be World Team Tennis format again. Each team consists of a minimum of 2 males and 2 females, and play is mixed doubles, men’s & women’s doubles, and men’s and women’s singles. The league will be played at PAHS, on Saturday afternoons: 3/31, 4/14, 4/28, and 5/12. Entry forms will be out soon. In the meantime, start thinking about potential teammates, and put it on your calendar.

The Peninsula Tennis Club “Adopt-A-Hiway” signs are up on 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim. They are at Shore Road (by the Everwarm store) headed towards Sequim, and at Dryke Road (by Lumbermen’s) coming towards PA. We are obligated to pick up trash at least 3 times a year. Our first pickup will be Saturday, April 21, at 9am, with tennis to follow. It should take an hour and a half to two hours, if we can get about a dozen people out. Send an email if you would like to be on the pick-up crew. We’ll recruit again closer to the event, as well.

Our scholarship applications are available now for high school seniors. The application is attached. Students should return them to their appropriate school by March 16th, 2007.

We are looking for someone(s) to serve as Saundra Kent Memorial Tournament director in August. This is a great publicity event for PTC, as well as being a popular tournament. If you have played this tournament for multiple years and have never helped run it, please consider volunteering in some capacity. Send an email to peninsulatennisclub@olypen.com to volunteer.

If you aren’t a current PTC member and plan to participate in any of the leagues or tournaments or other events, join PTC now to get reduced entry fees. We have extended the 2007 membership year to December 31st, so you will still get a full year of events for your membership. A membership form is attached.

The Erickson court rebuilding project is being readied to go out to bid. We’re still looking for 2 corporate Grand Slam sponsors at the $2500 level. If you have any personal contacts at companies you think may be open to sponsoring, talk to me about fundraising information to approach them. A banner should be up in the next couple weeks on the courts advertising the Lakeside Industries and Olympic Electric sponsorships.

Thanks for supporting the Peninsula Tennis Club!

Laurel Cripe, President.
