Newsletter April 2007 Peninsula Tennis Club Newsletter April 26, 2007 Hello Peninsula Tennis Club members, Sorry for the late notice on the annual breakfast meeting. Following PTC tradition, it will be Saturday May 5th at 9am at Joshua’s Restaurant in Port Angeles. Agenda includes introduction of scholarship winners, spring & summer event schedule, update on court projects, and suggestions on any club business. If you have anything for the meeting agenda, email me at ljcripe@hotmail.com prior to the meeting. Weather permitting, we will play tennis at PAHS after the meeting. As I noted in my earlier email, we have extended our 2007 membership year to December 31. This should avoid most of the confusion caused by paying memberships in the middle of the summer tournaments. If you are a current member, you should have a laminated membership tag. If you have paid and don’t have a tag, let me know. I do have a few made up I still need to get out to people. If you aren’t paid up, the membership forms are available at http://www.olypen.com/peninsulatennisclub/member_brochure.pdf. The litter patrol on April 21 was a huge success. Our twelve volunteers picked up 56 bags of trash that DOT had off the roads by Monday morning. Our stretch of highway is notably cleaner than the rest of 101 between PA and Sequim. Thank you to Dave Shargel who organized the crew, Christy Brown, Bob Ritchie, Casi Fors, Debra Knutson, Staci Stratton, Tricia Stratton, Sandy Schultz, Rosemary Moorhead, Becky Lupo, Gene Turner, and Rich Riski for working hard for PTC. I heard that picking up litter was actually NOT a glamorous job, and that these volunteers are looking forward to a crew of DIFFERENT volunteers picking up the next time. As I missed this pick-up, I promise I will be on the crew next time. Our next PTC event is the Sequim Ultimate Doubles on Saturday, June 23 at Sequim High School. Julien Berg has volunteered to run that event again this year, so thank you very much, Julien! Flyers on that event will be out soon; save the date on your calendar. WTT spring league is underway, with Christy Brown capably organizing. Currently the Musraquets are in the lead in the “A” league, and Team Chaos is leading in the “B” league. Action continues on April 30th at PAHS at noon. Full schedule & results are available at http://www.olypen.com/peninsulatennisclub/League_spring_07.htm. Our summer schedule will again include a weeknight league, probably Thursdays, starting in June, the Sequim doubles tournament July 6th, 7th, & 8th, and the Saundra Kent Memorial Tournament August 3rd – 5th and 10th -12th. We still hope to be playing on the new Erickson Park Courts in time for the Saundra Kent. We will be awarding Most Improved Player trophies in December, to cover the period from January to December, 2007. Please keep your eyes open during spring & summer play for worthy nominees for those awards. PTC monthly business meetings continue on the third Monday of each month at the Port Angeles Library. The next meeting will be May 21st at 6:30 pm. Anyone interested is invited to attend the meetings. See you on the courts!
