Board Meeting Sept 19, 2005
Present: Roger Goettling, Dave Shargel, Jerry
Estberg, Rosemary Moorhead, Bob Daugherty, Bill LaRue, Jeff Brown, Laurel
Cripe, Bob Ritchie.
Saturday Dec. 3 set for annual winter meeting.
Laurel will contact Barb Boston & Thelma Durham to get them to organize place,
etc. The present members wondered if something besides the usual breakfast
would attract more attendees. Main December meeting agenda item will be
election of new officers, to take office in May 06, and determing directors of
2006 Saundra Kent tournament. Laurel will put a general December meeting
anouncement on the website.
Much discussion of potential 2006-07 board
nominations. More nominations will still be accepted. The following
nominations were made:
President: Laurel Cripe, Vice-President: Bob
Ritchie, Treasurer: Veronika Johannesen, Secretary: Becky Lupo (acceptance not
confirmed?), Social committee: Norma Smith, co-Scholarships (w/ Fran Burch):
Jen Gouge.
General discussion of board duties, etc: Bob
Ritchie agreed to spearhead publicity for the club, and Bob Daugherty
volunteered to talk with Bob R. and Laurel about marketing ideas. Bob
Daugherty wants to make the presidency a paid position. Some people thought
there might be a way for PTC to get money from the community (motel tax?) if
we put on events that attracted people to the area. Bob Ritchie also said he
would contact past members who have not paid for 2005.
There was discussion of how to attract more
players to the club: Bill LaRue suggested doing activities like taking a van
down to the Pac 10 Indoor Championships in Seattle in January, or getting a
visiting pro to put on a clinic here. Bill will try to recruit help and
follow up on some of these ideas. He also suggested contacting other
successful CTAs and clubs, and getting ideas from them.
Roger volunteered to run a ladder in the spring,
if there is interest.
Recap of tournament finances: SK netted $1,544.37,
Sequim tourny netted $589.
Discussion of lights at PAHS. Laurel had talked
w/ Scott Brodhun, who said if PTC donated $300, the HS would replace all bulbs
(not just burnt out ones) on the lower courts. Roger said he had a lift to
use to replace lights, which might lower cost. Present members agreed to
donate money for lights, but thought PTC share should be less if we supplied
lift & labor. Roger will follow up w/ Scott Brodhun. (UPDATE: Roger has
contacted the HS. It appears the bulbs may cost more than the $300 - Roger
will follow up on this.)
Agreement to open up Most Improved Player award
for male & female to voting by the entire club via email and website. Prize
will be trophy & USTA membership.
PS: Jen checked with PC President Keegan 9/20, and
says current plan is to keep the college courts and refurbish them when the
building construction is complete.
