Monthly Business Meeting, August 20, 2007
Peninsula
Tennis Club Laurel brought the meeting to order. The first topic was the Saundra Kent tennis tournament. Bob stated that there were less singles players this year but about the same amount of doubles players. The neat profit this year was $3235 compared with $1981 last year and $1375 the year before. Bob said that the increase was the result of $500 more in fund raising, more income from food sales, less money put out for prizes and increased fees. There have been a number of positive comments on how the tournament was run. Our thanks to Bob. Erickson courts update. If the weather cooperates, they may be ready to play on next Tuesday. There was some discussion as to what kind of activities to schedule on the new courts. A ball machine practice day was mentioned but there will be no outlets at the courts. An extension cord would have to be run from the storage building. Laurel suggested official club tennis times such as Monday and Wednesday morning with a club member scheduled to attend each official time. The storage shed will have to be moved over from the high school and squee gees and rollers rounded up or purchased. Signs will need to be made up indicating official club activity times and mounted on the fence, Laurel has volunteered to arrange coverage at the Tuesday and Thursday 4pm time period and Dave Chargel will cover the Monday and Wednesday 9:30 time. Someone will be needed to cover Saturday morning. We are looking for a volunteer. A ribbon cutting photo op is scheduled for after the courts are completed. Laurel is hoping to schedule a major grand opening of the courts next spring. There will be another ad put in the paper listing major contributors to the completion of the courts. Bob suggested starting a singles ladder. Comments from Dave and Laurel indicated that this hasn’t worked in the past. Laurel will send out a notice to members asking about interest in a fall league. We are looking for a volunteer to run it.
