SCHOLARSHIPS:

Scholarship committee chair, Fran Burch, announced the 3 2005 Scholarship winners.  In attendance at the meeting were

Jeff Haguewood from PAHS, who will attend Gonzaga University to major in General Engineering and obtain an MBA in a double-major program.  Jeff plans to participate in crew & rowing at Gonzaga.

Adam Williams of PAHS who will major in Art at  WWU.  He plans to continue playing tennis and lacrosse at Western.

Not attending due to a tournament conflict was Rondale West of SHS.

TREASURY REPORT:

Treasurer Lee Shames was not in attendance, but Rosemary Moorhead gave the following report:

Checking  $1325.78
Savings     $3630.00
CD             $4545.00

Some of the money has been earmarked for a covered court fund.  Rosemary mentioned that the club may decide to donate that money toward the refurbishment of the Erickson Park courts. PTC is hoping to raise $30,000 towards the $100,000 cost of rebuilding the courts.

ERICKSON PARK UPDATE:

David Shargel reported that Allan Goff is the permanent recreation manager for the City of PA.  David had spoken with Allan, who said that the city council liked the proposal to rebuild the Erickson courts and had allocated some Capital Improvement money towards the project.  Laurel emailed Allan to get current status of the proposal.

PAHS SHED:

Once the spring tennis season is over, the club will contact the high school tennis coach about securing our storage shed for PTC members only use.  Rosemary had contacted the athletic director, who was agreeable to PTC restricting access to members only.

SCHOOLS:

There was a suggestion that PTC representatives go to a highschool tennis practice early each season to talk about the scholarships available and the criteria used in picking recipients, and to promote club tennis programs to the highschool players.

LIABILITY INSURANCE:

The members voted to renew our USTA liability insurance coverage.  Liability insurance is required by Sequim HS for the July doubles tournament.

MEMBERSHIP LIST & MENTORING:

Bob Daugherty will look into updating the membership list with singles/doubles playing preference and player levels.  It was also suggested that players who are willing to coach others be identified on the list.  There was some discussion of creating a "Mentoring Ladder" where players would agree to mentor other players in exchange for receiving help for themselves.

Laurel Cripe suggested a campaign be started to reward PTC members for bringing new players out to group functions.  She is looking for ideas of how to motivate members to recruit new players.  The PTC membership goal for 2005/06 is 70 paid memberships.

OPEN TENNIS:

All Open Tennis is now being played at Peninsula College.  Times are:
M/W/F     9-12:00
weekdays    4:00 pm
Saturday    10:00 am
Sunday          9:30 am

Marielle Eyekmans will look into forming a group of players who would guarantee that specific open times are attended, so that people would know someone would always be there to play.  Nita Quan suggested a sandwich board be made which could be set on the court to identify which courts are being used for Open Tennis.

SEQUIM DOUBLES TOURNAMENT:

Laurel Cripe volunteered to run the Sequim tournament, if she could find help.  (Karen Chrisman later agreed to be co-director of the tournament.)
