It was decided that the club would keep the Hit and Learn hitting stand. It will be demonstrated at the May meeting so that those interested will know that the club has it available to members. It was suggested that non members can try it and then will be charged to use it subsequently.

Fran informed us that the two people selected from Sequim to get $500 scholarships are no longer on the tennis team and therefore not able to receive the money.

One more person was selected from the Port Angeles team. The three selected are Brook Helpenstell, Tyler Clifford and Christopher Lemon. They will be invited to the May meeting. It was suggested that the procedure for selecting scholarship winners be written up to make the transition easier for the people that take over when Fran steps down from the committee. It was also suggested that requirements for tennis club scholarships be posted on the club internet site. This will make it easier for students and parents to see if they qualify.

Laurel showed examples of plastic pouches and tags which could be made up with club and members information. It was estimated that it would cost around $100 for a laminator and tags. Those present approved Laurel doing so.

Julien Berg will be holding a one day tennis event in Sequim on June 24th. It will be free for members and $5 for nonmembers.

Karen and Laurel will run the Sequim doubles tournament again this year. Bob Ritchie will be the director for this years Sandra Kent tournament.

The annual club meeting and breakfast will be held May 6th at 11 am at Joshua’s restaurant. Breakfast for scholarship winners will be paid for by the club.

It was suggested that fund raising ideas are needed. Be thinking about this and we will discuss this at the May meeting.

Laurel advised us that the city has given the club permission to paint the club logo on the backboard at Erickson tennis court. We are looking for an artist to do so.

There was some discussion about methods of reducing the noise level at the Erickson courts. There is nothing in the works at this time.

Randy Johnson, Dennis Yakovich and the YMCA director presented information on funding and planning for possible covered courts at Erickson. They are suggesting three covered courts and two uncovered in the same location as the Erickson courts.

They are also attempting to get donations of $150,000 to $200,000 of the $400,000 or more estimated cost of such a project. They also think we should continue with our proposed resurfacing of the Erickson courts.

It was suggested that we do a survey of local residents to see how they would feel about having a large building in that location.

Bob Ritchie agreed to chair a small committee looking into indoor court possibility.
