PTC Business Meeting

3/19/05 6:30 pm NOLS

In attendance: Laurel Cripe, Bob Ritchie, Dave Shargel, Christy Brown, Rich

Riski

The meeting did not follow a set agenda.

Topics discussed and action taken included:

* Clean-up day for our strip of Hwy 101 is set for Saturday morning, 4/21. Details to follow. Laurel mentioned this is also the weekend of a Fed. Cup match in Kamloops, BC between Canada and Israel. She may attend but it was decided to keep the date since there should be enough PTC members in town to field a crew. Our thanks to Laurel and Rich who already did a spontaneous cleanup (sans safety vests!) recently to take care of a bad patch of litter.

* Port Townsend TC is proposing a mixer here on Sat., 4/7 at 10:30 am at PAHS. Laurel will reserve the courts. PTC will put out an invitation. Assuming we get enough players from both clubs to sign up, PTC to host and provide pot luck after.

* The written agreement regarding the Erickson project that the City of PA drafted for the Club to sign was reviewed and approved. It mostly reiterates what was spelled out at the Council meeting when we presented the funds to the City. Added was a PTC obligation for 25 hours of maintenance work per year on the courts. All agreed this would be easily met.

* The draft design for the sponsor banner for the Erickson project was passed around and generally approved. Still looking for a couple Grand Slam sponsors to add to the banner.

* The bid package is being prepared now for Erickson, June completion should be feasible. Shane Park courts to be done as soon as weather permits. There would be big advantages to doing the lights when the courts are built rather than later. We're still hoping money turns up for lighting this year.

* Rich reported that OMC has a strong interest in Cardio Tennis and, while not able to become a Grand Slam sponsor, could make a significant donation to Erickson if there is a commitment to make Cardio Tennis available to the community. Laurel to meet with OMC to clarify what Cardio Tennis is and what OMC's goals are.

* Laurel passed around an award letter from Gail Benzler, USTA NW region rep., for up to $800 to pay for a laptop to do PTC tournaments. Discussed he need for a Saundra Kent tournament director. Bob agreed to take it on again IF Laurel agreed to do a 2nd term as PTC president (if elected and by-laws permitting). Laurel agreed (unless her indoor project takes off first). Discussed making the new courts at Erickson the focal point of the Saundra Kent tournament with the PAHS courts being the secondary site.

* Bob to shop for laptop. Those present voted to commit up to $500 of additional PTC funds to add to the $800 from the USTA grant to insure getting a quality machine with the features we need. Will try Costco first.

* Laurel to check out 8' x 11' $830 plastic shed available at Costco as possible storage unit for Erickson rather than construct a wooden shed.

* A sympathy card was selected, signed and sent to Marlene and Lee Shames in light of her recent health problems.

Meeting adjourned.
