Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm Presidents report: The USTA PNW awarded the city of Port Angeles, $31,400.00 in grant money to reconstruct the Erickson Tennis Courts, the funding is pending the clarification of three items: Project Specifications; Drainage Concerns on the south side of the courts and a Letter of commitment from the Peninsula Tennis Club for the $20, 600.00 the club promised the city for the courts. There will be a conference call on 10/17/06 to clarify the first two items. Plans to recognize private contributors in three categories were discussed and will be some type of plaque at the Erickson Courts.
Bronze $100.00 and up Commercial donors will be recognized as Grand Slam Donors at $2500.00 and up. Christy Brown announced that OLYMPIC ELECTRIC would be the first Grand Slam Donor. The USTA PNW also awarded the PRESIDENTS AWARD to the Peninsula Tennis Club for the Erickson Court Project, this award will be presented at the USTA meeting Oct. 21st in Seattle. Laurel noted that all of these awards should get us some good press coverage and help to increase pledges for the Erickson Court project. Laurel Cripe is also being honored with the Outstanding Contribution to the Community! This will also be presented at the Oct.21st meeting. Letters will be sent out to PTC members reminded them that the pledges will be due and for those who did not pledge giving them a chance to still pledge. Laurel reminded all that we can still nominate players for the most improved player award that will be presented at the December business meeting. There are two positions that need to be filled: Treasurers board position, Becky Lupo, will be out of town in 2007 for six months and will not be able to fulfill her duties, also the Scholarship Committee Chairperson position which has been held by Fran Burch is available. Fran has handled this position for a number of years and is vacating the position. Laurel is looking for volunteers for both of these spots. At last months meeting we discussed applying for a grant for a laptop to help with tournaments. The grant was with the USTA national group, we were informed that a laptop would fit better under the USTA PNW technology grants. Laurel Introduced Don Heikkila, from the WADOT. Mr. Heikkila showed a video on how to conduct the litter pickup on our section of highway 101. The PTC has been given a 2 mile stretch between Shore Road and Dryke Road. We are committed to clean up this stretch for 3 years and to do the clean up at least 4 times/year with April being the only month that is mandatory. For those that have not seen the video or listened to the presenter they must sign a form from the state prior to doing a cleanup. Dave Shargel has the vest, hard hats and the garbage bags for cleanup. The first time to do this has not been determined; we will wait till the Peninsula Tennis Club sign is up to start. Other Business: Rosemary Moorhead gave an update on possible community contributors she has contacted regarding the Erickson Courts. The first was Cathy Price, with Nippon Paper. Ms. Price at first was not receptive to the discussion of donations for a tennis court. Rosemary stressed that this was a community project not just PTC project. Unfortunately the phone call was cut off, a letter of follow up was suggested with reference to the “community” project and that any donation could be budgeted for 2007. Jan Herwerth, from DelHur Construction, will consider a donation for the courts. Orville Campbell was also contacted. Becky Lupo and Sandy Schultz presented options to the board for the December business meeting. Of the places presented it was narrowed down to three possible with all needing further clarification. Becky and Sandy will get back to the board on a final choice. The meeting will be held on a Thursday evening, Dec. 7th. Meeting adjourned at 8:20pm Recorded by Becky Lupo for Carl Strunk
