July 2007 Newsletter
Hello Players,
A lot of events coming up to remind everyone
about.
But first, the Erickson court news: Construction
is in full swing on the new courts at Erickson Park. The old courts have
disappeared under a layer of rock, conduit is in, and this week the concrete
footings for net posts, fence posts, and lights are being poured. Lakeside
plans to lay the asphalt on Monday the 30th. Then the asphalt will need to
cure for a week or two before the acrylic surface is laid. So far all work is
progressing as planned, with no surprises. The rain starting on the same day
construction began was annoying, but it didn't hold up any of the work. No
specific opening date has been set, but one source put it as "long before" the
Senior Games in September. There are some photos of work in progress on the
PTC website, Erickson Courts page. (Beware if you have dial-up internet
access...)
The Sequim Ultimate Doubles event in June was a
success - Thank you Julien Berg for organizing that. Mark Textor and Branette
Richards emerged as the victors at the end of the day. The Sequim Doubles
Tournament also went well, winners are posted on the club website -- again,
beware, lots of photos.
Upcoming Events: July 28th is the Pro-Am at Fort
Worden, put on by the Jefferson County Community Tennis Assoc. They have a
terrific website, check it out at
http://www.jeffersoncountytennis.org/.
July 27-29th is the Bally's Adult Tennis Camp in
PA. There may still be spaces available. Call John Campbell at 360) 791-4971
if you are interested.
This Friday, July 27th is the entry deadline for
the first weekend of the Saundra Kent tournament in Port Angeles (singles &
super senior doubles). August 3rd is the deadline for Men's, Women's & Mixed
Doubles the second weekend. The entry form is available at
http://www.olypen.com/peninsulatennisclub/2007SaundraKentEntry.pdf. Print
it out, fill it out, and mail it in! We'd like to thank our primary sponsors
for the tournament which so far include Tennis Warehouse, Green Crow, Puget
Sound Transfer & Wilder Toyota.
It's not too early to make your plans to play in
the PA Senior Games, September 14th to 16th. A link to the Senior Games
website is available on the PTC directory page.
Please keep submitting nominees for Most Improved
Players (Male & Female) for 2007. Nominated so far are Andy Chinn, Mallory
Maloney, Roger Goettling, David Godfrey, Justine Textor, & Tricia Stratton.
(Anyone notice anything about that list? Sequim is well represented! What's
going on - something in the water?? ) Nominate anyone you think is worthy -
we like to recognize players who are working on their games!
Oh, and just to remind people, your 2006 - 2007
PTC memberships are good through Dec 2007. This was a decision made by the
PTC board to make bookkeeping a little easier and cut down on the confusion
over who is a member during the tournament season. So if your membership tag
reads "Expires 6/30/2007" that's not true anymore - it will actually expire
12/31/2007. If you aren't already a member, you can pay your membership with
your tournament entry to get the SK tournament discount.
The next PTC monthly business meeting will be
Monday, August 20th, at 6:30 pm at the Port Angeles Library. Anyone
interested is welcome to attend.
See you on the courts!
