Beloved Music Director/Conductor of the Port Angeles Symphony from 1985-2003

Nico’s life was a joyful celebration of service to the music he loved; he spent his life enriching the lives of everyone around him, and that is a fitting epitaph. He brought this community his vast musical knowledge and rich heritage, giving us a legacy that will leave the Peninsula cultural life forever changed.
The 2003/2004 season of the Port Angeles Symphony was dedicated to his memory.

Nico Snel Music Director and Conductor Nico Snel was born in the Netherlands and moved to the San Francisco Bay area when he was a teenager. His musical education began with his father in North Holland and continued in California, Utah and Germany.
While serving with the U.S. Army he was named conductor of the 7th U.S. Army Symphony Orchestra and conducted over forty concerts in Germany, France, Italy and Belgium. He served many years as music director of the Oakland Light Opera and the Walnut Creek Diablo Light Opera Association. He was the Music Director/Conductor of the Seattle Philharmonic
Orchestra from 1979 until 1995 and is now Conductor Laureate of that orchestra.
He has been our Music Director and Conductor since 1985 and during these years
has conducted the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra in Canada, Peru, Bolivia,
Spain, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Germany.
