Bernard's Page
Bernard --- 157 pounds in February 2005 at the age of 8, and now at age 10+ he is still 148 pounds. Bernard is a "senior" dog for a giant breed. He still works very hard to guard the farm. June 2000 Reader's Digest featured hero dogs ... including an Anatolian fighting baboons for his sheep. Bernard limits himself to coyotes and "city dogs" that try to run the calves. The neighbor's small plane is also subject to suspicion. Bernard's protective instincts make him a sucker for the small and helpless. Kittens climb all over him. The breed is wonderful with children, and the Anatolians we have had show a strong preference for women as well - natural guardians. Anatolians need lots of exercise. Bernard is still very fit and makes his rounds. He's not ready to retire completely yet! Click on photo for larger image.
