Farm 2008 The
herd, purebred Polled Herefords and Angus crossbreds,
is located on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, about 40 miles
northwest of Seattle. The
herd is centered on animals that are easy keepers, good mothers, and quiet
dispositions. The cattle support themselves on pasture and hay, and receive
only small amounts of grain as calves to ease them through weaning. Steers
and heifers finish on grass or hay, no grain. Cows begin calving at
two years of age and wean their calves on a hay and pasture diet.
Currently, weaning weights are in the 600-650 pound range. Some of
the bull calves wean off much heavier. Although the herd is smaller than in past years, occasionally there is an exceptional heifer or two, or a locker beef for sale. If you are looking for a quality animal that will grow on grass, please feel free to inquire about what cattle are available.
