A Tribute to Rose Crumb

Founder of Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County

Volunteer Director 1978-2009

We sometimes refer affectionately to VHOCC as "Rose's

Hospice", but when speaking to the assembled members of

the VHOCC Board of Directors, the nurses, and the many

volunteers, Rose has often reminded us that we are the ones

who make this Hospice possible and keep it going. So it is also

"Our Hospice".

And all of us who work here as nurses and volunteers always

keep in mind that it is the community spirit of the citizens of

Clallam County that supports us and makes our work

possible through generous donations of time, money,

equipment, and, especially, that one magic ingredient that

keeps community volunteer organizations going,
appreciation.

So in the end, this is really Your Hospice; it is Our Hospice.

And I expect we will also continue to call it "Rose's Hospice."

Gary Lepak, President
VHOCC Board of Directors

It was 1978 the year VHOCC was born

By a dedicated woman with knowledge and charm.

Rose set forth a path using her gift of compassion

To make death with dignity her life's special mission.

Over the years patients and families alike

Were comforted with Rose's solace and grace

And with a gentle spirit, she met all the challenges she faced.

In the time of their sorrow and grief of life passing by;

It was Rose's gift and her mission at the end of their lives

That brought many to give and volunteer their time

To what has become known as Rose's Hospice, the one ever so fine!

It is with hugs and smiles and education to Port Angeles and Sequim

That will ever be in our hearts as we carry out the mission.

Thank you to this blessed woman and Founder, Rose Crumb.

May the path that you traveled guide VHOCC in the years to come!
