From the A. W. Corliss text: arrived in New England in 1639, settledfirst in Newbury and then moved to Haverhill (of which he was one of thefounders) where he resided until his death. He was chosen as a selectmanin 1648, 1653, 1657,1670, and 1679. The tract of land on which he settledin 1640, and built a log house (now known as Poplar Lawn) in 1647, was in"West Parish" and remained in the family for many generations. The textcontains substantial additional information on George Corliss.
