1st Event- Log Medley- 270lb, 290lb, 320lb,
350lb- Going into this I was a little hesitant, as my press has
not been doing so good lately and the fact that my best log is
only 350. So I watched other guys go and as Jay Hagadorn went
I saw him miss the 320, which for Jay even with his torn pec
is a pretty sure thing, so I thought this will probably come
down to the quickest through 2 logs. My turn came and I ripped
through the first two and failed on the 320 as well, I think
it was because the ground was very unlevel and we were pressing
facing the sun so it was kind of hard. Everyone else missed the
320 except Brad Dunn who absolutely smashed all the logs with
ease so I ended up in 2nd place. 2nd event- Car DL for reps- Again I was hesitant because of what happened in WI (see wisconsin write up) and the car seemed to be heavy because Jay only pulled 8 and Shaw pulled 12. So I went up, and right before I went Mike Johnston gave me a tip on my DL suit which I think helped out a lot! I started pulling and they just kept coming. At 12 reps I started throwing up so I got to 13 and took a break. Jon Andersen (who was judging) said to me "I don't know if you'll need more than that" at which point I said "Well how many more should I pull then?" Jon: "I don't know....I'm not sure" Me: "Jon JUST TELL ME HOW MANY TO PULL!!!" Jon: "Ok a couple more" so I ended up pulling 16 reps.....1st place. 3rd event- Frame Carry 800lbs 60 ft, drag the frame back 60ft- Easy pick up and not too bad of a drag, but Shaw beat me by a few seconds. I am happy though as my grip feels stronger than ever! 2nd Place 4th Event- 900lb tire flip 80ft- These tires were kind of hard to flip but the real hard part was that it took 11 flips to finish and after this event I threw up for a solid 10 minutes!!!! I was happy though as I finished it in 1st place. 5th event- Stones 300, 300, 360, 360, 380, all to 54in platforms- By the time I went no one had loaded the third stone, so I popped the first 2 up and smashed the third one. I would have loaded the last two but my abs were cramping so bad from the vomiting and I didn't really need them that I passed on it. 1st place (By the way there was a stone error and the third stone ended up being 380!!! Whoops! Gotta love strongman) I am actually quite happy with the show, as it is my first pro win on American soil....I do wish there had been more competitors, but with World's the way they were I understand...I was happy to finally meet Reggie Barton, he is a spot-on guy. As always I was impressed with all the guys there. The venue was great and Jon, Mikey J, Van, Jenie, Terry and Dione were all great and supportive, even though they were tired from being in Korea and running the show. All in all a good show. |
